Jelly Roll is one of the biggest names in music right now, let alone in the country genre. Part of what makes him so likable is his willingness to collaborate and connect on a deeper level, both with everyday folks and fellow musicians. In the last year alone, he’s visited and spoken to a handful of detention centers and jails, and has had inspiring collabs with Lainey Wilson (“Save Me”), Post Malone (“Losers”), MGK (“Lonely Road” and “Time of Day”), Wiz Khalifa (“Higher Than Heaven”), and Jessie Murph (“Wild Ones”). Now, he’s joined forces with yet another voice of the moment.
On Friday, May 23, after nearly a month of teasing, Alex Warren dropped “Bloodline” in collaboration with Jelly Roll. The uptempo, folk-pop song is a commentary on generational trauma patterns and a message to all that you’re never alone, and even the most seemingly inescapable chains can be broken.
“Oh, my brother / You don’t have to follow in your bloodline / Oh, we got each other / And, if you got tomorrow, then you still got time,” Alex and Jelly sing in the chorus. “To break the chain that left you scarred / From where you came isn’t who you are/ Oh, my brothеr / You don’t have to follow in your bloodline.”
Alex and Jelly first debuted the song during Jelly’s star-studded Stagecoach headline set back in April, immediately earning virality on TikTok as a result. As catchy and uplifting as the lyrics are (and as hair-raising as the live performance was), fans are equally drawn to the music video snippets the pair has posted on Instagram, in which they’re dressed in garb reminiscent of medieval times.
