Quickly becoming the next big name in country music, Lainey Wilson hasn’t remotely let her foot off the gas since breaking into the industry. Besides winning numerous awards, the singer received the chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the business like Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert. Hoping to leave her mark on country music, Wilson recently took a stroll down the yellow brick road when she released the music video for her hit song “Somewhere Over Lardeo.”
Back in 2024, Wilson dropped her fifth studio album with Whirlwind. Coming packed with 14 songs that Wilson helped write, the album featured hits like “Hang Tight Honey” and “4x4xU.” Thanks to the success of the album, the singer will release a deluxe version of the album on August 22, 2025. And on the deluxe version will be the song “Somewhere Over Lardeo.” Sharing the music video of the song, it appeared that Wilson drew a great deal of inspiration from The Wizard of Oz.
Discussing her inspiration behind the music video, the country singer told People, “ I had not had the opportunity to make a video that I felt like deserved that kind of trippiness. When you think about The Wizard of Oz, and you think about the “Yellow Brick Road,” of course, you think of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and this [song] is an interpolation of that. It’s a way for us to tip our hat to that and acknowledge how timeless of a song that is.”
